Hmmmm…perhaps a return of the classic rink with the stick forming the “C”?

That would be better than the current crest. I’ve never been a fan of designs “inspired” by the company that owns them.

While watching this the commentators forgot that St Louis scored on their own net two years ago. That was the year St Lou got 25% of their wins against the Canucks and ultimately spoiled our playoff hopes. It cost Burke and Crow their jobs too.

I had always wondered if scoring on your own net when the goalie was pulled ever happened before and then it happened.

I’m not aware of how long the NHL has allowed goaltenders to come off the ice for a player but I imagine it was sometime around then it must have happened. Its a great rule that certainly adds some excitement. Its either an old rule or has been around to compete with the WHA. Certainly Gary Smith use to try to play point, heh.

This also brings up the Icing and the Crease rule. One of my favourite rules was that Icing was negated if the puck wen through the crease.

The NHL has always hated this rule putting all sorts of qualifiers in it. If it comes through the crease after hitting the backboards its still icing; if the goaltender is pulled its still icing. I believe now that the rule has been eliminated completely.

The beauty of the rule is its sort of the opposite of a foul in baseball. Suddenly the puck is back in play and players have no choice to play it. The team can quickly find itself scrambling. In baseball, its just anticlimactic and one of the many things that can make it boring.

The league obviously loves the footrace too much. Touch up icing really needs to be brought in.

    I digress…

Let’s put them away tonight, you stupid Canucks!

Keep the orca but in vintage colours.
Or the Johny Canuck in vintage colours.

    Hrm.

It doesn’t seem to work for me; I attempted this on my Linux system and was greeted with the same account order. Does this still work for you for version 2.0.0.6 of Thunderbird?

I have three accounts listed on that preferences line, and I have tried them in every which way, to no avail.

Due to compatiblity issues with my IMAP server, I downgraded to 1.x, so I cannot verify on 2.0.0.6.

Nonetheless, I remember there were multiple instances of prefs.js existed in my various profile folders, and I chose the wrong file at first. That may or may not help you though ;-)

    Anyone else?

I was just coming to here to tell you about this logo but you beat me to it. I was looking for you on IM too.

I can’t stop laughing. I now officially want this as the sweater. I’ll pay US$100 for it. That’s about C$101 these days.

However this is the complete logo, include the WHL Canucks and Millionaires:

Also someone combiend the new uni’s with the old Canucks and Panthers logo:

Finally, and most importantly, the HHOF may have leaked the new logo here:

    http://cyberstore.hhof.com/HockeyHallOfFame/ctl4080/cp22291/si2785350/cl1/nhlteamopuscubedcap

That one is as close to as official confirming a number of the worst fears out there. We will find out officially tomorrow.

The best solution so far I have found.

I added a few steps to make it easier, for the novice.
it is easier to get to prefs.js by:
    Clicking HELP and then about:config

to make reordering easier and predictable I added this step:
To help figure out what account is what number: change the default to account1, and manke sure the rest of the accounts are in numerical order. save. reopen tbird now you know which account corresponds to what number.

    Thanks for your clear explanation.
    Steve

You write wonderfully, and the content of your story is certainly Vinyl Cafe worthy.
I hope it gets noticed there, but in any case, know that I personally was really touched by your story. You describe an experience most of us have – the person on the periphery of our life who is nonetheless a steady, welcome presence. Thanks for putting into words.

Nancy, thank you so much for taking the time to read the story, and for your kind comments!

I drove by the barber shop recently (which is at the corner of Royal Oak and Rumble in Burnaby) and it is still in operation..

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for this great list! The PDF generation looks very useful.

Thanks, Kulpreet. I recently came across this as well:

Loved it. Very well written and well crafted. I agree, whether it gets read by Stuart or not is beside the point–it’s the process and the fact that you took the time to write. Thanks for sharing this story!

Keep in mind that account is always on top.

That was a very well written and informative article. Do you believe if you ad production values to your video ad it will have a positive or negative impact? For example supes, music or transitions. I’m thinking it may come across as tacky but perhaps they could be used tastefully.

  19. 19

    Dave Zille

Thanks for the comment, Frank. I think increasing the production value of the video definitely helps. But I would try to avoid the old “PowerPoint effect” of using too many transitions, etc.

    Sean Timm

I confirmed that it works with 2.0.0.16 (Windows XP).

    Go to Tools->Options->Advanced->General->Config Editor

This brings you to about:config mentioned above and will let you edit the prefs.js directly. Exit TBird (CTRL-Q) and restart.

    Hey Dave:

How are you? After reading your post, I think you might find this lecture worthwhile to watch. It’s about 1 or so long and it’s about achieving your childhood dreams. Randy Pausch who actually gave this lecture for his kids and not his students because he knows his kids (ages 6months, 1, 3) will never know him when they get older because he is diagnosed with cancer ~ anyways, Randy passed away in July but his lecture lives on for us and his kids.

Watch the first video then the second one (5 min – make sure you have kleenex handy).

Great entry Dave! I used to get excited about hockey and baseball during elementary school, but I couldn’t talk about it with anybody because they didn’t know what I was talking about!

    Dave Zille

Raymond — thanks for your comment. I recently read (well, listened) to Randy Pausch’s audiobook, also titles “The Last Lecture” which talks not only about the lecture itself, but about the events leading up to and after he gave it. Highly recommended!

Ryan — nice to hear from you. Who do you think will take the World Series this year? How about an all-Chicago matchup? ;-)

Haha, I just noticed that you left me a question while browsing your page. Well, It would’ve been nice, Dempster and Harden, the Canadians for the Cubs. Well, too late now, sorry for the “extra” late response. This year is the Canucks’ year, and during the next baseball season, it’ll be the Jays!
