Hmmmm…perhaps a return of the classic rink with the stick forming the “C”?
That would be better than the current crest. I’ve never been a fan of designs “inspired” by the company that owns them.

While watching this the commentators forgot that St Louis scored on their own net two years ago. That was the year St Lou got 25% of their wins against the Canucks and ultimately spoiled our playoff hopes. It cost Burke and Crow their jobs too.
I had always wondered if scoring on your own net when the goalie was pulled ever happened before and then it happened.
I’m not aware of how long the NHL has allowed goaltenders to come off the ice for a player but I imagine it was sometime around then it must have happened. Its a great rule that certainly adds some excitement. Its either an old rule or has been around to compete with the WHA. Certainly Gary Smith use to try to play point, heh.
This also brings up the Icing and the Crease rule. One of my favourite rules was that Icing was negated if the puck wen through the crease.
The NHL has always hated this rule putting all sorts of qualifiers in it. If it comes through the crease after hitting the backboards its still icing; if the goaltender is pulled its still icing. I believe now that the rule has been eliminated completely.
The beauty of the rule is its sort of the opposite of a foul in baseball. Suddenly the puck is back in play and players have no choice to play it. The team can quickly find itself scrambling. In baseball, its just anticlimactic and one of the many things that can make it boring.
The league obviously loves the footrace too much. Touch up icing really needs to be brought in.
I digress…
Let’s put them away tonight, you stupid Canucks!

Hrm.
It doesn’t seem to work for me; I attempted this on my Linux system and was greeted with the same account order. Does this still work for you for version 2.0.0.6 of Thunderbird?
I have three accounts listed on that preferences line, and I have tried them in every which way, to no avail.

Due to compatiblity issues with my IMAP server, I downgraded to 1.x, so I cannot verify on 2.0.0.6.
Nonetheless, I remember there were multiple instances of prefs.js existed in my various profile folders, and I chose the wrong file at first. That may or may not help you though
Anyone else?

I was just coming to here to tell you about this logo but you beat me to it. I was looking for you on IM too.
I can’t stop laughing. I now officially want this as the sweater. I’ll pay US$100 for it. That’s about C$101 these days.
However this is the complete logo, include the WHL Canucks and Millionaires:
http://bp2.blogger.com/_r8tWGVHrjGI/RtSUYJXYLOI/AAAAAAAABhs/4fvvOH7MMgE/s1600-h/small_originalVjersey.png
Also someone combiend the new uni’s with the old Canucks and Panthers logo:
http://bp3.blogger.com/_r8tWGVHrjGI/RtSVMZXYLRI/AAAAAAAABiE/RoLOK7gmo44/s1600-h/VAN-FLA.gif
Finally, and most importantly, the HHOF may have leaked the new logo here:
http://cyberstore.hhof.com/HockeyHallOfFame/ctl4080/cp22291/si2785350/cl1/nhlteamopuscubedcap
That one is as close to as official confirming a number of the worst fears out there. We will find out officially tomorrow.

The best solution so far I have found.
I added a few steps to make it easier, for the novice.
it is easier to get to prefs.js by:
Clicking HELP and then about:config
to make reordering easier and predictable I added this step:
To help figure out what account is what number: change the default to account1, and manke sure the rest of the accounts are in numerical order. save. reopen tbird now you know which account corresponds to what number.
Thanks for your clear explanation.

You write wonderfully, and the content of your story is certainly Vinyl Cafe worthy.
I hope it gets noticed there, but in any case, know that I personally was really touched by your story. You describe an experience most of us have – the person on the periphery of our life who is nonetheless a steady, welcome presence. Thanks for putting into words.

Nancy, thank you so much for taking the time to read the story, and for your kind comments!
I drove by the barber shop recently (which is at the corner of Royal Oak and Rumble in Burnaby) and it is still in operation..

Loved it. Very well written and well crafted. I agree, whether it gets read by Stuart or not is beside the point–it’s the process and the fact that you took the time to write. Thanks for sharing this story!

That was a very well written and informative article. Do you believe if you ad production values to your video ad it will have a positive or negative impact? For example supes, music or transitions. I’m thinking it may come across as tacky but perhaps they could be used tastefully.

Thanks for the comment, Frank. I think increasing the production value of the video definitely helps. But I would try to avoid the old “PowerPoint effect” of using too many transitions, etc.

I confirmed that it works with 2.0.0.16 (Windows XP).
Go to Tools->Options->Advanced->General->Config Editor
This brings you to about:config mentioned above and will let you edit the prefs.js directly. Exit TBird (CTRL-Q) and restart.

Hey Dave:
How are you? After reading your post, I think you might find this lecture worthwhile to watch. It’s about 1 or so long and it’s about achieving your childhood dreams. Randy Pausch who actually gave this lecture for his kids and not his students because he knows his kids (ages 6months, 1, 3) will never know him when they get older because he is diagnosed with cancer ~ anyways, Randy passed away in July but his lecture lives on for us and his kids.
Watch the first video then the second one (5 min – make sure you have kleenex handy).

Great entry Dave! I used to get excited about hockey and baseball during elementary school, but I couldn’t talk about it with anybody because they didn’t know what I was talking about!

Raymond — thanks for your comment. I recently read (well, listened) to Randy Pausch’s audiobook, also titles “The Last Lecture” which talks not only about the lecture itself, but about the events leading up to and after he gave it. Highly recommended!
Ryan — nice to hear from you. Who do you think will take the World Series this year? How about an all-Chicago matchup?

Haha, I just noticed that you left me a question while browsing your page. Well, It would’ve been nice, Dempster and Harden, the Canadians for the Cubs. Well, too late now, sorry for the “extra” late response. This year is the Canucks’ year, and during the next baseball season, it’ll be the Jays!

That’s a great tip about how to get around the 4 photo limit…I’d never thought about putting more photos in an album on a sharing site and linking to it. Thanks!

Dave, good job. I like your idea of video – what is the format, and procedure for getting to a file that others can play? (I did this about 2 years ago, but it got kind of complicated – I’m sure its simpler now.)

Selling a car is not that difficult as one feels. All you need is proper guidance and a perfect deal.

I found that with Thunderbird 2.xxxxx, the default account is always listed first. Under ‘Account Settings,’ at the bottom of the left side of the panel will be a button “set as default.” Select the account you want on top, and click this button. This account will now be on top. I only have 2 accounts, so I do not know if repeating this sequence will set the order for 3 or more accounts.

i want to relate to you a story that happened to me as a youth, i dont want my name published as not all the people in this story know the truth about what happened. i come from a small town in the praries and my father was the doctor in this small town, i at 13 was not the best streight A student there was i found looking out of the windows in class much more entertaining especialy in math class. When the final tests came up in the late spring i sudenly came down with “examinitus”. This was no problem for me for i had the uncanny ability to think sick and turn myself a deathly shade of ash, fooling everyone is was indeed sick. Well the morning came for the exam and i fooled my mother into thinking it would be best to let me stay home from school… My father was another matter. He arrived at home for lunch with a collegue of his from another town that had come to visit. My father of cource had invited him home to our house for lunch. My mother when he got thru the door said that I was upstairs sick. Well being a good father he and his friend tromped up the stairs and came to see how i was doing. I was sleeping in my mom and dad’s big queen sized bed as it was the biggest bed in the house and the most comfortable for the infirm (it was also the best bed to jump on from the dresser playing superman/spiderman but that is a different story) my father and his doctor friend came in and looked at me and poked and prauded me and i owwed and oohed in all the appropriate places i figured i should so i could miss the math test in the morining but now i was shooting for the whole day off of school, my biggest misteak… well my father and his friend walked out in the hallway and discussed my “condition” i could here them mumbling and thaught i had done a great job fooling them, i lay back and smiled thinking of all the afternoon t.v. i could watch. Well they opened the door and proceded to wrap the quilt around me and carried me down to the family station wagon, telling my mother that i had to go to Moose Jaw to the hospital to get my apendix out!!! Well i was stunned!! I was so stunned in fact i lost my ability to speak, all i could do was mumble incoherently. I was put into the back of the station wagon and my dad didn’t stop for anything on the way to Moose Jaw, i was thinking, oh crap oh shit, oh crap how do i get out of this one, if i tell my dad i was faking it he would kill me or do the operation without anesthetic or something equaly horrible, (faking sickness in a doctors house hold was the ultimate sin, and punishable with unspeakable horrors). Even if i would have had the corage to confess i dont think he would have believed me. We got to Moose Jaw in what seemed minouts where it should have taken at least an hour. I still remember lying down on the gurny watching the over head lights and the pipes running along the ceiling, flashing by still thinking oh shit how am i going to get out of this one( i didn’t want them to cut me open!!!) well the wheeled me into the operating room right away, no repereve in sight, the mask came down on my mouth and the lights swam and faded and i was out. I awoke and found myself in a bed in the recovery ward with my mother waiting for me to wake up. She said i was lucky and everything was going to be fine and i got some cool stitches and a scar to be proud of.. i also got lots of toys for being a brave little soldier, (ha ha if she only knew) well i got out of the main hospital in Moose Jaw and was transfered to the small town hospital in our community for a few days. The next day my teacher came to visit me, my Math Teacher and she had with her the test i had missed and very happily gave it to me…. a serious case of miscalculation on my part, never fake being sick in a doctors house you may not like what you have to loose…
