One of Gatesey's loyal visitors sent us the story of Piriklis. |
Piriklis arrived to our life on Friday the 21st of October 19 94, late in the evening, when I was arriving home and I saw something small in the sidewalk. He looked scared and tired, and his wings feathers had been badly cut. |

It wasn't difficult to take him home, and the
next morning he had a new bird-cage (which he only used as a "night hotel",
basically: he was out all the time, everywhere else!), a new family and new friends (my
friends adored him). I found it hard to believe that a little brain like his could do the things he was doing. With all our patience, we repeated words and sentences, which he learned as the best student. He also played something that I could only describe as "hide and seek", if that can be applied in this case! |
| His name, Piriklis, was one of his favourites words, and it sounded really great & sexy in his "lips"! His feathers grew, he started flying again and he looked really GUAPO and happy. How could I feel he was happy? I DID know. | ||
These are things that only persons that have
and love birds - or dogs or any other pet -can understand (though I'm sure that some
persons may think I'm a little bit crazy, you know what I mean). But good things of life often don't last too much, and a sad 21st (again, 21st) day of June 1998, Saturday, he got lost first in our garden (he took ocassion that the door was opened and did something completely unusual: hs curiousness took him to the open air, which he disliked so much) and from there, flying from tree to tree (during eight long hours running after him), he flew without control and we lost each other for ever. |
| There will never be another Piriklis. I envy you, Dave, for you have Gatesey with you. Enjoy every minute with him. MariCarmen, |
